The Collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid

A conversation between two museums—one in Madrid and one in Warsaw—exploring the future of decolonizing collections.

This publication addresses the evolving discourse on the decolonization of museum collections and displays. By bridging diverse geographies and temporal spans, the book explores how institutions can dismantle inherited frameworks and foster pluralistic understandings of art history. At the core of this inquiry is a critical dialogue between the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Their perspectives are articulated through a comparative analysis of each institution’s specific historical circumstances and decolonial initiatives.
